Tom Langpap grew up in San Diego and was an avid watersport lover.  He swam competitively in high school and college and occasionally was free diving to bring home abalone for dinner.  He attended University of Redlands in 1963 and transferred to San Diego State University to obtain his Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering in 1968 and Masters degree in 1974.  Tom married his wife Pat in 1969 and has two boys; one that works for Lennar Builders and the other that works for LA County Sanitation District. Tom worked for Southern California Testing Laboratory from 1966 to 1977 until he joined Geocon.

Tom had an uncanny ability to sit with a set of grading plans and see issues most of us don’t.  He was also an excellent practical Geotechnical Engineer.  As Jim Likins used to say, “Tom has forgotten more geotechnical engineering than I ever knew.”  Tom was a valuable resource to many at Geocon.  His expertise helped Geocon become one of the premier geotechnical companies for multipurpose, large, land development projects in southern California.  He enjoyed working with other consultants to maximize design opportunities and minimize potentially costly development areas with respect to geotechnical site conditions.  Tom retired in 2000 and has been enjoying retirement as a traveler, wine connoisseur and tennis player.
